Making your own kids birthday cake may seem like an ominous task, but in fact it’s a fun inexpensive project that involves your special birthday person, memories for a lifetime, and plenty of oohs and aahs from the Birthday Party Kids.
We love Sponge Bob, so here’s an example for a perfect cake that you can make at home. Be sure to include all the Sponge Bob party supplies available at our Partner Stores.
If baking from scratch doesn’t fit your busy schedule, the supreme and moist boxed cake mixes will do just fine, and refrigerated ready-made frosting with food coloring paste is just the thing for achieving a tasty, deep sea motif for Sponge Bob, Patrick, and the gang from the Krusty Krab.
Create your cake board using a cookie sheet, cutting board, cardboard or other materials that give you a large, flat surface. Cover the cake board with foil, plastic wrap, or a Turquoise Plastic Tablecover. Bake your cake as directed and cool to room temperature, then place it in the freezer for 45 minutes to 1 hour. This will make it easier to frost. Trim your cake into a desired shape and place on your prepared cake board. Spread a very thin layer of frosting over all the sides as the base coat, or “crumb coat.” When this layer has dried it will help seal in any crumbs, and prevent them from showing up when you add your frosting ocean layer, and Sponge Bob decorations, or decorate the sides of your cake with a colorful, assorted school of plastic tropical fish.
Top off your cake with coordinating candles to match your party theme.
